COLIN
MURPHY
Colin Murphy is the premier Northern Irish comedian working. His
distinct fusion of edgy "in your face" topical satire,
with off beat, but acute observational material, make him a highly
original and much sought after performer.
As regular
MC at Belfast's infamous "Empire" comedy club, Colin
has deservedly earned himself a reputation as a force to be reckoned
with. Always armed with a razor sharp wit, his turn over of material
is nothing short of prolific.
As a formally
trained actor, and founder member of the 'Sightlines' Theatre
Company, Colin has appeared in countless theatre productions including
"Twelfth Night" (as Sir Toby Belch) and as Gottleib
in 'Auschwitz'. The latter part earning him a nomination for "Best
Actor" at the ISDA awards.
However it
is his barn storming comedy routines which have brought him directly
into the public eye, including a sell-out breathtaking runs at
the 1999 and 2000 Edinburgh Festivals - earning him huge critical
and industry acclaim. Colin continues to give headlining performances
throughout the UK and Ireland, and his brand new solo show premiered
at the 2001 Edinburgh Festival to sell out capacity.
With a growing
broadcast media profile, Colin hosts the RTE entertainment show,
'The Blizzard of Odd' (2 series). He has featured in an array
of programmes including the BBC series 'People Like Us' (2 episodes);
the Carlton series Big Bad World, his own solo comedy special
'Something For The Weekend' BBC NI (a mixture of stand up, sketches
and comedy chat); as well as a solo special for Green Inc Productions,
Comic Asides; 'The Stand Up Show' (2 series) for the BBC,
"The Survival Guide to Life" for UTV. "@last TV"
for RTE; "Don¹t Shoot the Messenger" for the Paramount
Channel, and "The Return of the Empire" for BBC NI.
Colin can be seen co-starring in the Scala feature film "Divorcing
Jack" as "Gibber McGibbet"; in the feature film
"The Most fertile Man in Ireland" and the role of "Seamus"
in the BBC drama series "Eureka Street"
Colin recently
completed his own comedy series for UTV (entitled 'Really Really)
which he co-wrote and stars in, and appeared in the BBC 2 series
of "Comedy Nation". He was especially commissioned to
write a short story (Red Isuzu) for the new book "Shenanigans"
(an Anthology of Fresh Irish Writing) which is published
by Sceptre. He has just finished writing for the BBC series The
Stand up Show, and is developing a sitcom for Channel 4 with Jason
Byrne as well as writing and starring in radio 4's The O'Show.
Colin co-wrote and co-starred weekly in the 2000 series of The
Stand Up Show, is writing a monthly column for Ri Ra magazine
and will have an original fiction story published by Esquire
Magazine in the autumn.
Currently developing various television projects and with an increasingly
busy diary of work, there is no doubt that Colin Murphy is fast
on his way to becoming a major comedy name,

roof raising comedy. Watch this man's name he's going to
be huge" IN DUBLIN MAGAZINE
